    Description

The 50 State Quarters Proof Sets produced with the five quarters produced that year in 90% silver and again were the same as the year's Silver Proof Set but in a reduced red packaging and unique certificate of authenticity. All issues were produced at the San Francisco Mint.
The United States Mint certifies that this Silver Proof Set of current United States
coinage was produced and packaged at the United States Mint, San Francisco,
California. Each coin bears the "S mint mark of that facility.
United States proof coins are produced from carefully selected planchets, or coin
blanks, that have been burnished to a high luster. The polished blanks, which are
carefully handled to minimize scratches and abrasions, are struck on specially adapted
coining presses. Each coin is struck at least twice to bring forth the most minute detail
    with remarkable clarity.
The 50 State Quarters? Program is authorized by Public Law 105-124. The coins
are created to honor each of the 50 states in the order in which they entered the union.
Their designs depict the history, geography, and the rich diversity of our national heritage.
This San Francisco struck haze-free 1999-S U.S. Silver Proof Coin Set is in GEM Proof condition in its Original Government Packaging.
The traditional five-coin set was no more after the release of the 1999 Silver Proof Set.
This set kicked off the first year of the State Quarters series and under this new program, five different quarter designs would be released each year for the next decade.
This also marked the expansion of the traditional set from five coins to nine coins; seven of which were struck in 90% silver. Each 1999 Silver Proof Set contained the Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut quarters. This set also contained the 1999 Kennedy Half dollar, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel and the Lincoln Cent.
Each coin in the set was minted at the San Francisco Mint and so features the "S" mint mark.
The original government packaging for this set featured all nine coins sealed in two plastic lenses before being placed in a cardboard box. The color scheme for the sets turned to red.
