A coin is a small monument to a past leader - here are 120,000 small monuments put together by Hal Woods as a Bi-Centennial salute to our past and great presidents and Susan B. Anthony! The car and coins are 1976 (except rare coins). 1976 was the 200th birthday of our great U.S.A.
The Bi-Centennial Coin Car was designed and built by Hal Woods of Midland, Texas, in 1975-76 and required the labor of 8 man years. Appraised value at completion was 0,000.00. The car was originally used as an "exhibit car" being shown all across the USA. In 1978 the Guiness Book of Records designated it as the "world's costliest automobile."
Coins - Over 120,000 each hand shaped to contour of car - 16 steps required for each coin. The coins are 19th & 20th century coins and coins from around the world including one from Rome 1600 years old. Includes a US trade dollar valued at over ,200.00. Coins alone have an appraised value of over ,000.00 U.S.
Labor - Four people two years to complete.
