The advance party of the Turkish Brigade or Turkish Armed Forces command, arrived in Pusan on 12 October 1950. The main body numbering 5090 troops 259 military commisioned officer (CO), 18 military staff, 4 civilion staff, 395 non-commisioned officer (NCO), 4414 soldier) arrived five days later, on 17 October. Brigadier General Tahzin Yazici commanded the brigade. Colonel Celal Dora was assistant Brigade Commander. This was the first Turkish Brigade. When the main body arrived the brigade went into bivouac near Taegu where it underwent training and received U.S. equipment. The brigade was attached to the U.S. 25th infantry division so after limited training the brigade moved north to the Kaesong area to join the division. Therefore the name, code and amblem of Turkish Brigade become North-Star
First Turkish Brigade stayed in Korea until 16 November 1951. Then they handed over the 2 nd Turkish Brigade. Then they handed over to 3rd Turkish Brigade in 20 August 1952. In 1953 it was 4th and in 1954 it was fifth Turkish Brigade.Turkish Rapublic was established in 1923 by Ataturk. The year of 1954 was the 31st anniversary of this foundation.
Korean government gave this memorial badge in 1954 to all 5 Turkish brigades (around 16.000) in between 1950-1954.With the light of the information above, now you can understand the meannings of letters and amblem on the badge.At the upper side of the badge,It says “XXX1 (31st) Anniversary of Republic” Here the year written by Roman Numbers.Below this, it says “5 th Turkish Brigade” which they were there in 1954 where the badge given in this year.At the center there is a turkish flag amblem which combined with additional 6 stars totally 7 star give the meaning of North Star amblem.Below, there is a world” Korea” where the badge is given.At the bottom “1923-1954” means the date of Turkish Republic foundation year and the medal given year.
