The entry of Chinese forces into North Korea in November 1950 resulted in an entirely new war. Breaching United Nations lines between Gen Walker's 8th Army and Gen Almond's X Corps, the Chinese offensive forced a withdrawal across rugged mountains in the cold Korean winter. This book records the desperate attempt by the 8th Army to reestablish a defensive line which could stop the savage enemy assaults. It was a time of heavy casualties and battle heroics which are often overlooked by the actions at Chosin Reservoir. Written by the excellent historian Slam Marshall this is a great read. The River and The Gauntlet
